He finally told us that her weight is in the 40's, she's healthy *was given meds for the giardia and retested to make sure she (and the other dog) were clear*, doing fine at home and that her next vet appt is in 3 months.

Here's her updated pic, taken the 17th of July.

Apparently he had some strange understanding that "his business was his business". Which, for him, translated to "I'll get to you when I feel like it". So I sent a strongly worded e-mail informing him that he had a contract upon which he'd agreed to send pictures and updates at my request and if he didn't we'd have no problem driving to St. Louis and finding him to see how she was doing. I also told him that after this picture and update we would only require one more set when she's 1 year old (as well as an update)...after that he could keep her all to himself unless he had questions or concerns that he needed answered.

She's being well cared for, is healthy and looks pretty happy, has 2 boys to play with and we definitely know he takes her to the vet. All in all - she's doing good. I wish he'd tell us her name, but apparently that's "his" business as well. He's definitely a weird one.

Yeah I guess so. Unfortunately, some take things the wrong way. Instead of being happy that her breeder is truly interested in how she is doing...he becomes defensive. I would be so happy to have one of my breeders contact me to see how their pups were doing instead of me having to contact them to say hey here's how your pup is. Some people.

Gunners breeder wanted to know how he was doing during his first year. We even sent him pictures of the pups he'd had so he could see his "grand-pups". He has NEVER emailed or written us in response. Strange.

I feel it's our responsiblity to contact the new owners and make sure they are doing what they are supposed to be doing...spaying/neutering, shots, heartworm preventative, etc. At least he's finally "caved in" and sent another picture and update. The other 5 we know are doing fine and have no problem sending updates.
The one's where the men were mainly the new owners have been the hardest to keep in contact with. Guess it's a "man thing". Smile At least we know they are all safe, happy and healthy.

What a cutie !! Glad they finally caved in. Bella's breeder contacted us for the first 6 months when they wanted to know how she was. I think I sent updates every 2 weeks, once I went a whole month and sure enough, I had a message in the inbox from them. Daisy's breeder asked for updates, but never e-mails to see how she is doing and they take forever to reply to an update. Beau's breeder I am friends with, so Beau's updates I don't send to often because she knows how he is doing. Bell's updates are like every other month or every 3 months (she is over 1 year). But since she was placed with us (breeders), I feel it's our responsibility to keep them up to speed on how she is doing. I'm even in close contact to Bella's litter sister's family, who also have a half brother of hers, who are also breeders. That is all thanks to Bella's breeder, who gave us their URL . I'm very thankfully they did ! They also sent us some pics of her litter brother . Still waiting for her other litter sisters updated pics, but they, sadly, are the type where it's "their business" I guess..

Hope you don't have to much trouble with them LML, in the future.

Hopefully he'll be a little quicker in responding in the future. I will leave them alone for the next 6 months mainly because I know she's o.k. and if he does have any problems he will contact me (take the giardia case for instance). Not to mention the fact that in 4 months Tony will be graduating college and I'll be leaving my job at 7-11, then 2 weeks later we'll be moving to Louisiana and I'm sure it'll take about another month and a half to get settled in.
I will send emails to the other 4 owners in October and December to get updates from them since they are way more willing to cooperate and understand my view better. Smile After December I'll leave them alone until the end of March when the pups are 1 year old.

I had 8 pups go out and all 8 owners told me they would keep me updated. Only 2 held to that!

I get up everyday and look to see if they have posted some pics or email... Nothing!

I am glad I dont have to do this again because I hate liars! LML you did the right by makeing them sign a contract to keep updates. I shoould have done the same.

it also says that for the health guarantee to be valid they must spay/neuter.

I think that's the best part of the contract...people are more likely to spay/neuter if they know that they have a contract to do so and their health guarantee will be affected.

If I'm not mistaken, Brian will be getting her spayed in 3 months. I guess he's waiting until she's had her first heat. Which, in his case, is o.k. cause he's got a 14 yr old female beagle/lab mix and they are kept inside. So no danger of an "oops" mating. Two others have already been spayed/neutered. There's one boy and 3 girls left. One girl is an only dog and inside, the other is a hunter so he might wait until 1 yr of age to do her and the other boy is inside.

I love how everyone is pretty much keeping their pups inside. Especially with it being so hot lately.

All in all they are a good group of people that are willing to do what needs to be done.

Yeah...that is nice. I still have to have Bell spayed. Believe me...going through the first heat was not fun. Of course it didn't help that I already had my hands full. But we survived it. I just don't want to go through that again. And there is no reason for us to take the chance of having pups by accident when we don't intend to breed. I think we're going to try to get it done next month...its just a matter of time and planning. I'll have to figure out when my hubs is off to help since she wont get in the truck on her own or get out on her own...what a nut. She'll jump on the couches when her and Clay are wrestling but won't jump in the truck. LOL.

We are planning on getting Tira spayed but she's in the middle of a heat cycle now so Gunner will be put in the spare room at night and when we're gone that way we don't have to worry about any accidents. If she got pregnant now the pups would be ready around Christmas, which could be good, but it would be 2 wks before our "big move". Extra dogs would NOT be a good thing. It's already hard enough to find a home that will take 2 big dogs much less their pups, lol. We may have to wait until we get to Louisiana before she gets spayed, but at least we'll have a few months once we get there to save up for it.
