Old boy limps

Well my old guy Guns is limping (left front leg)...well he's not that old. He's only 4. We've had him on phycox, a glucoasime supplement, for some time. In the last three weeks I pulled out our area rug in our main living area and tossed it out. The limps seem to be worse now. I am thinking the floors are very tough on him and he has no traction to get up. He refuses to sleep on the beds we buy him...always opting for the floor. Of course right now he's playing tug of war with Clay. That doesn't help either. But other than getting a new rug for them to hang out on...I don't know what will help his soreness/stiffness.

Poor Gun!

Is it the normal Lab hip/leg arthritis type problems or something that just started? Maybe get the largest doggy bed they make and hopefully he'll think it's a rug and lay on it! Smile

Aw, poor Gunner ! I think a rug, maybe a smaller one, would be a great thing to get for him. It seems he likes rugs better then the doggie beds lol.

It's been ongoing for sometime...more like a arthritis thing than anything else. It's not regular and before we moved it didn't seem to flare up at all. But our old place was completely carpeted. Now we're all tile and wood over concrete base floors. I actually had a time adjusting when we moved in...my legs hurt for about 3 weeks. But I don't spend my entire time on the floor...he does. I put a blanket on the floor on the living room folded a few times thinking he'd lay on it. Guess who sat her fat butt on it first! Bel-Bel. She thinks everything soft is for her. If I move one of the dog beds...she runs over to lay on it. Then after she moved to a dog bed...Clay laid on the blanket. I did put a small rug outside our bedroom door where Guns normally lays. He did sleep on it last night and this morning and seems to be moving around good this morning. So I think that will be the key just to have a rug in an area that I know he will use it. So we will see. If it continues to worsen we will definitely have to go see the vet and see what our options are. After watching the Derby yesteray and seeing a horse put down for broken ankles...my husband is like let's just take him to the vet and put him down. He was joking of course and I didn't think it was too funny. Let's just say I am super emotional right now and had to fight back tears just seeing a horse down on the track. A horse I don't even know. Smile

James - "?? hip/leg" - I was trying to shorten it from hip or elbow displacia or a dislocation. Smile

I wasn't trying to make it hard.

Poor Guns. Not much you can do when he won't lay on the rugs. Unless you make the whole floor one big rug?! What about those egg crate things? Get a bunch of those real cheap and put them down and lay a rug on top of them. Perhaps that'll help.

no no when you said that it kinda sounded scary like maybe it could be that, Im just saying that would suck so maybe a x-ray to determin that might be a good thing. I agree with ya lml.....

I know nothing of this displasia so I guess I dont know what I am talking about scratch

Yah...he seems to be fine today. I may try the egg crate thing. I think he just gets hot when he lays on the beds so he avoids them normally. I guess that's what happens when you wear a fur coat all the time. I think its just a bit of arthritis but I'll keep an eye on him. He's such a nut tho.
