HELP fleas

Tira and Gunner both have fleas. The house has fleas and probably the yard as well. We've sprayed the yard, to no avail. We've bombed the house, to no avail. We've shampoo'd, flea collared, used preventative, capstar, etc. - all to no avail. I don't know what else to do?!

I have to bathe them once a week with a flea shampoo that's supposed to last a month (kills fleas, eggs, ticks and larvae). Why does this shampoo not keep the fleas away - even though the shampoo says it's supposed to last for a full month????

Gunner and Tira are both starting to thin out on the top of their back from nipping and licking trying to get rid of the itching. It's not a lot, just on one side about --------------------------------------------------------------- long and ---------------------- wide. There are no scabs, no redness, but the hair is thin.

HELP US !!!!

Personally if you're not using Frontline Plus...I would invest in it. It's more expensive then what you would get at the store, but it's worth the investment. I have never had flea issues and since using Frontline...has never had tick issues. The problem with fleas is even if you treat your yard and your neighbor does not...well it doesn't help to treat your yard. You may want to switch them over and then have a professional treat the house. I am not a believer in any flea products like shampoos, collars, or anything I can get from your average store because they have never worked for me. My cousin also said there is a pill you can get from the vet that last three months to kill fleas...I can't remember the name but she said it is more expensive than frontline but you use less of it...I may have to look it up.

The only pill I've ever heard of was Capstar. It kills fleas within 5 minutes of the dog taking it. We used Frontline before and it worked with limited success. However, at least it kept the flea pop. down where the scratching was little/none.

We are going to have to take a trip to the vets office I suppose. Man, oh man. Hopefully this works. Smile

Frontline and ceder...... Remember shampoo Companys, do not make money by a product working the first time. If it did they would see 1/8 the sales they have now. So Hartz, Frontline and a few others work well. Is it sand fleas or just plain out fleas?

If you are going to do Frontline and have a problem...you may want to use it every three weeks vs every four. That may help control things better during peak season. My vet recommended that when we had tick issues while using k9advantix

James - as far as I can tell they are regular fleas.

We called the vet and they said there has been a massive flea infestation problem this year - so at least it's not just us. Smile

LMH - The vet told me about the pill that came out 3 months ago. Said it kills fleas in about half an hour and is supposed to work for a month. She also said that rotating between the pill and frontline would keep the fleas at bay easier.

We're going to the vet when I get paid Thursday. Hopefully the pill works first, then we'll try frontline again next month.

Just FYI on Frontine...you usually can get it alot cheaper online than you can get it at the vet...before you buy at the vet check out online sites.

I can sympathize with you on the flea issue. My house is infested and I have been battling the issue for about a year. Of course we have Industrial Fleas. I get the flea population to the point where I never notice them, then (((BOOM))) they are back in full force. Darlin is frontlined but that doesn't keep them completely off just keeps them from biting.

I used Raid flea spray for carpets and upholstery, I bomb every few months, Frontline the dogs and cats. I do what I can.

It's to the point now that Tira is losing more and more hair around her butt and lower back area because of all the nipping, licking and biting. Thursday we're going to get the "new" pills that kill fleas for about a month. I don't know if we'll ever get the out of the house so it's a good thing we're moving soon! I'm going to make sure they are both clean and frontlined before we move and then bomb the new place (after unpacking) to kill any that may have moved with us.

Hopefully this works.
