Ok here is the skinny on what is going down in the Labrador World as far as Genetics. The test for EIC [Exercised Induced Collapse] is said to be ready between 2 to 4 weeks, I've heard 6 weeks at the latest. What is EIC ? Here is a nice article on the Woodhaven website : Exercise Induced Collapse

I've e-mailed this news to a few breeder friends of mine that share along the same lines as a few of our Labs. It's good that only 1 dog out of 20 was affected, but the Pedigrees of the Carriers have me a tad worried. Please check out the Labradata website to see the results of 20 Labs that were entered . These were "Tester" tests, and again, the EIC test is said to be available in the next 2 to 4 weeks to everyone. It is encouraged that all breeders test *all* breeding dogs.. We will be doing these test and furthermore, are glad we decided to push back our litter. This gives us time to get all these tests done.
Labradata Website
Click "Enter the Labradatabase"
At the top, click "Reports"
Click "Search Certs/Tests"
click the drop menu next to "What Was Tested"
Select "EIC"

Be sure to view a few of the pedigrees. Also, check out the rest of the tests if you have a chance !!

Next is CNM . Please read this website for more information :

Labrador CNM
At the top left hand corner there is a menu, click "Video of a CNM Lab". It's heart breaking !

Ok, on to the last tidbit. TVD ! This is a "hush hush" I guess for some breeders... Looks like we will be doing ECHO on everyone too ! WingNwave has a great article, please read this !!! - Tricuspid Valve Dysplasia (TVD)

Have a great day !!
Becky and the Labradogs !

Poor Jimmy! Sad How sad. I don't know if I could let my dog suffer like that. He can walk some, but he looks so skinny and depressed. Especially compared to the other yellow that runs into the frame.

The first and last "carriers" are have nice pedigrees, titles (Cuda is supposed to be a great Lab!) and it kind of scares me that even though a dog can be OFA'd or CERF'd doesn't mean it can't get some other genetic disease. Seems like we're going to have to start testing for everything soon just to make sure we're all breeding really good quality Labs and not just good in some areas and not in others.

Yes, many have wonderful pedigrees. 2 I believe share similar lines to that of Bella .... which affects us and the breeder friends I was talking about since they have labs related to Bella including one having Bella's Sister and half Brother.. I'm glad to know though. It saves everyone who tests, from producing affected pups.
