| I got word today that this healthy boy was sitting in the pound about 45 minutes away. I've been looking for another BH, Darlin is so lonely in the back yard by herself during the day. He'd be neutered of course, greatly reduces the risk of unwanted litters. They aren't sure how old he is but I think I'm falling in love with this boy.
Isn't he handsome????

| AWWW...I'd have to break him out. But then again I am a sucker for sad faces in jail. That's how I got Clay. I actually was considering being an emergency foster for the SPCA here b/c they are over capacity b/c of the hurricane. I was trying to talk my husband into it but since I have the baby and three dogs already he didnt think it was such a good idea. If Bella was spayed already...I'd do it anyways but unfortunately, I don't meet that requirement.
He is super cute tho. I dont know why anyone would want to give him up. |

| I wouldn't be fostering him. That's for sure, He'd be MINE til he died. Trying to figure out how I'm going to get money faster and a car to go get him sooner. _________________

| *****UPDATE*****
On the 24th he was moved from the Stockton City Pound to the Sacramento SPCA.
I hate dealing with the SPCA, if I can get him out (they have stupid tests that are usually wrong) he'll probably have Kennel Cough, so I'll have to keep him away from Darlin for a while. This is getting harder than it needs to be. _________________

| The Sacramento SPCA is the most horrible place, for a dog in, my honest opinion. I personally hate the SSPCA their dogs are NOT well cared for at all, often having Kennel Cough, and complications with altering, also there have been cases of dogs with severe heath issues that were not addressed until the person adopting the dog told them about it. ( I or my family have experienced all or one of these) I have to have someone else adopt him. I'm not allowed to, because I have a child under 10. They do this standardized testing on all of the dogs for personality, right after the dog arrives from where ever it was before (usually from a pound, and Doggy Death Row). Then that test becomes law, any dog that shows food/object aggression of any level aside from completely losing interest in it (with dogs or humans) is then labeled as a grade B and unable to go home with anyone that has children under 10 years of age. My thing is; that the dog is under stress, and their test is severely flawed. Tomorrow someone is going to adopt "Goofy" which is what they named him, so I will know that he is out, and safe. _________________

| Yeah I have seen the testing before about food aggression and I don't agree with it either b/c I also agree that the dogs are stressed...and have often been starved so of course theyre going to be aggressive. Clay was that way when we first got him and at times still is. We are working with him but it's unfortunate that dogs are labeled by a test that's not very accurrate. At the same time, I can see why they'd be concerned with the liability of children in the household. Today,if anything happens people want to sue you for not telling them every single possible thing that could be wrong with the dog even though an adopter needs to assume some things and take safe guards until the true personality of the dog can be seen in a comfortable environment.
I have heard alot of issues with dogs that had issues with surgeries from these kinds of places. I think they do this as many as we can do with as little money as possible and end up with problems. That's really sad because the animals suffer.
As far as kennel cough...I think if you adopt a dog from anywhere you have to assume it has kennel cough. It is so rampant and the vaccine is so ineffective that it's almost impossible for the dogs not to catch it. Reminds me alot of my old job...there were so many people in tight quarters...when one got sick you could watch it move from person to person down the row of desks until it got to you. You knew it was coming just a matter of time until you got it.
I think the idea places for adopting pets are those that are foster based. They don't house 50 dogs in the same place...They have one or two foster dogs in a house living with a real family in a real world situation. That is the true way to see a dogs character and personality. The next time I adopt..that's how I am going to do it. |
